The 3S 300 D is the ideal multi-turn actuator for small diameter valves (usually ball, butterfly and gate valves) buried networks. Due to the small size minimal installation depth is required.

The 3S 9000 S is the most powerful 3S actuator. It can be used to automate gearless ball valves up to ca. DN 600. Automation of such large gearless ball valves offers the following advantages:

  • The actuator can be mounted directly onto the ball valve.
  • The drive shaft is therefore in extension of the ball valve’s stem.
  • This makes it possible e.g. to avoid placing the manhole cover in the area of preferred traffic lanes.
  • No gear means one component less.

An alternative and cost-efficient way of automating ball valves above DN 300 is to combine a swing gear and the 3S 500 D multiturn actuator. The 3S 500 S/1000 S is ideal for automating smaller ball valves.

Servicing: Objective condition monitoring makes it possible to monitor and record the current condition of a valve. The actual condition detected during inspection can be matched to the nominal condition.

Repairs: The 3S AIG is capable of realizing over 2,500 Nm (1840 ft./lbs.). This makes it possible to repair even extremely hard-to-operate valves.

Documentation: All maintenance measures and the valve condition are documented in a tamper-resistant manner. All data can be integrated in the operator’s system and processes.

 

Handling of the USB interface

 

The new 3S AIG XS is designed to be a handy valve maintenance device and complement the already existing range of mobile 3S actuators. Only weighing 5.5 kg (12.2 lbs) and therefore being lighter and smaller than the predecessor 3S AIG, it still reaches peak performances of up to 900 Nm (1220 ft./lbs.). Easily being handled by one person, it is especially suitable for network operators with small- and medium-sized valves.

 

 

Just like the more powerful 3S AIG, it impresses with its innovative digital electronics, which make it into much more than a simple valve exerciser. Current valve conditions can be captured and plotted as a torque curve, which also shows number of gears turned. Condition-based valve maintenance can therefore be realized:

  • Objective inspection by capturing torque and number of gears turned
  • Paperless and tamper-proof documentation of current valve condition
  • Digital interface for importing valve master data and exporting condition data

The System Berliner Kappe® makes it significantly easier to operate buried valves. It makes it possible for just one individual staff member to operate even large and extremely hard-to-operate valves – without requiring physical effort.

The Berliner Kappe® is a patented coupling solution developed by the Berliner Wasserbetriebe and AVK Plastics BV for the mobile actuator 3S AIG. Covered by a standard street cap, a mount is installed on a supporting plate for valve stem caps which is anchored in the ground so that it doesn’t rotate when operating the valve. The valve can still be operated manually with a valve wrench.

 

 

All in all, the advantages of using the System Berliner Kappe® are as follows:
