Development of the cQuick2
One of the ongoing challenges faced by water utilities is repairing leaks on collars, couplings and flanges without shutting down supply. Traditional repair methods often require a full shutdown and piece-in repair which can be time-consuming, costly and frequently leads to further leaks once the system is recharged. The ability to repair under live conditions offers significant benefits in efficiency, cost reduction and customer satisfaction.
Working closely with our partners at Severn Trent Water and Anglian Water, R2M set out to design a solution that would allow for live repairs without the need for heavy lifting equipment, specialist tools or extended downtime. The result was the development of the cQuick2 Encapsulation Collar: a two-piece design that can be installed in just 20–40 minutes, providing a permanent, reliable repair under live conditions.
The early prototypes were trialled collaboratively with both utilities in 2014 and 2015. Through continuous feedback and refinement, R2M developed a robust, user-friendly design that has since become the industry standard across the UK.
Since its introduction, over 14,000 cQuick2 collars have been supplied and installed, each preventing a potential shutdown and helping to keep the water network #AlwaysOn. This product exemplifies how R2M works hand-in-hand with the water industry to innovate practical, field-ready solutions that deliver measurable results and long-term reliability.
